Layar in Augmented Reality
What is Augmented Reality?
Layar specializes in mobile augmented reality - the most popular medium through which the average person interacts with AR content. The mobile AR world consists largely of two different types of experiences: geolocation- and vision-based augmented reality.
Geolocation-based AR uses GPS, compass and other sensors in a users mobile phone to provide a heads-up display of various geolocated points-of-interest. Vision-based AR uses many of these same sensors to virtually display digital content in context with real-world objects - like magazines, postcards or product packaging - by tracking the visual features of these objects. Why Layar?
At Layar, we want to make the print world clickable.
We believe the existing physical infrastructure of printed materials is ready and waiting for augmented reality. With Layar, publishers and advertisers can quickly and easily activate their static print pages with digital experiences all without hiring developers or installing software.
In an age where online consumption is skyrocketing, print publications must find a way to communicate with their readers in new and interactive ways. Layar merges the online and offline worlds, bringing new levels of engagement to a previously one-way conversation.
